August is upon us and the sun is shining! As always on the Isle of Thanet, there are loads of events to enjoy. This week there is Braodstairs' famous Folk Week which goes on until Friday 12th August. Closer by in Ramsgate, we have Lark in The Park starting on 11th and running for 10 days up at Government Acre.
Ramsgate is looking marvellous at the moment with lots of activities, events and new businesses in the pipeline. One of my favourite new places to go is Archive Homestore which is a fantastic and creative use of our stunning 1820s arches at the Royal Harbour. It really is a must visit when you come to Ramsgate.
We are all getting very excited this week here in Ramsgate as The Defence of the Nation Museum are putting on a Spitfire Day to commemorate the first flight of the Spitfire 80 years ago on 5th March 1936. The celebrations will start from 11am down by Ramsgate Tunnels and include live entertainment from Naomi Hart and her Hotsy Totsy Quintet (who are staying at the B&B!) and Swing Noir, a popular local duo. There will also be local business stalls and a children’s marquee with Joey the balloon modelling clown
Ramsgate is looking more stunning than ever at the moment with a fantastic response from our local boat owners to decorate their boats to creat a dazzling display at our harbour. Even the arches have got in on the act this year to create an even more Christmassy feel to our town. This Wednesday, with the help of the public, I am helping out with the judging which is going to be even more difficult than last year.
I can't believe how quickly the year has gone (I know, sign of getting old!) and November is already here. I'm a bit weird in that I quite like the winter, the late sunrises and early sunsets with the low light means lots of great opportunities to photograph Ramsgate and the surrounding areas in all it's glory. The best bit is that it improves as the winter deepens with spectacular sunsets over our Royal Harbour especially in January. If you come for a walking holiday, don't forget your good camera!
There is so much going on in Ramsgate and it kicks off tonight with 6 times motorcycle world champion, Jim Redman at Oddfellows, High Street talking about his time with Honda. He will be marking the start of a weekend of rip roaring activity with The Ramsgate Sprint Revival, our newest event in town which has got so much going on including races, 50s and 60s music, Wall of Death and Elvis! The weather has been amazing over the past few weeks and our Blue Flag beaches have seen lots of use and not just by dogs! Although dogs are allowed on some parts of the beach, they are not allowed on the Main Sands. Humans only!
This weekend like all through the summer is a busy one with Ramsgate's first food and craft fair up on Government Acre including an inflatable beer tent with entertainment! It is running all weekend so make sure you get down and join in the fun.
I had a wonderful morning down at Ramsgate Tunnels yesterday for the grand opening ceremony of Ramsgate’s newest museum and education centre. With my Ramsgate Town Team hat on, I have been working with Mike Samson of York Street Gallery who has painted a wonderful mural of Ramsgate Harbour circa, 1940 down in the new Education Centre.
2015 is well underway and I can’t believe it is Valentine’s Day tomorrow! Ramsgate offers so much for those of you who fancy a romantic break away, from our lovely array of independent cafes and bars overlooking our unique Royal Harbour to our fantastic local shops dotted around our town. The newest addition is called Petticoat Lane Emporium (see pic) which opens its doors on 14th February with an injection of passion for the small trader, it will house an eclectic collection of retro and
