Well, we had a such a lovely day last week when our town mayor, Pat Moore came and opened the newly named Ramsgate Rainbow Steps with an audience of all the children involved in creating their wonderful collages depicting the many colours of Ramsgate (photo of me and the mayor courtesy of Isle of Thanet Gazette!).

We are very lucky on this little corner of England and are blessed with some of the warmest weather our country has to offer but even we haven't been immune to the recent storms. There was a fantastic electrical storm last night and tonight is pretty impressive too although the daylight hours have been filled with sunshine!  Not so last week which started out as a glorious sunny day until I stepped onto the beach with Rosie dog.

Two of my lovely guests (Hi Peter and Bianca) and myself were priveleged to be the first 'group' to experience the tunnel tour a couple of weeks ago, the weekend prior to the official opening.  We were very grateful to be their guinea pigs and were treated to a step back in time when Ramsgate was under constant threat during WWII.

Exactly 75 years to the day, Ramsgate Tunnels reopened it's big iron gates on 1st June welcoming people to step back in time.  It was a beautiful sunny day with hundreds of people taking advantage of our newest, oldest attraction with 1940s music, stalls, reenactments and wonderful food on offer.

The week started with the Duke of Kent coming down to mark the occasion on 27th May and officially open the tunnels, just like his father did, 75 years ago in 1939.

Charlie and I had such a fantastic weekend working with the Ramsgate Town Team to help give the tired old Augusta Steps a makeover.  I first put the idea to the team back in February after reading about the fantastic community effort in Istanbul to paint their steps the colours of the rainbow and we finally got permission from the council to do just that here in Ramsgate!

Happy May Day Bank Holiday!

Happy May Day Bank Holiday!

The weather is supposed to be dry and sunny over the Bank Holiday here in Ramsgate so hope you can join us for the first of our Summer Bank Holidays.

Pride in Thanet Tourism Awards

Charlie and I would like to say a big thank you to all our guests who stayed last year and filled out one of the Pride In Thanet cards and obviously wrote some lovely comments because last night we were awarded with a 'Highly Commended' certificate and a bottle of locally produced sparkling wine!  The ceremony was held at the fabulous Winter Gardens in Margate which was an extremely well organised affair with a delicious spread of food and drink.

Well we've been very lucky with the weather here in Ramsgate this March with balmy temperatures last weekend reaching almost 20 degrees!  It actually felt warmer when I helped out with a voluntary clean up at Winterstoke Gardens last Sunday. Organised by Friends of Ramsgate Seafront, several of us got together and spent four hours cleaning, weeding and sweeping these Grade II listed structures whilst people descended the steps to enjoy a sunny day on the seafront.

Ramsgate businesses are preparing to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a display of love for our town.  We will all be putting up ‘I love Ramsgate’ posters and over the ensuing weeks the town and surrounding businesses should be awash with devotees!

So, it’s almost a week into 2014, the Christmas decorations have come down today and the panto has packed up for another year.  It is business as usual here at Glendevon B&B where we have happily been full over the festive period and remain so for most of January.   We have even received two Trip Advisor reviews already (Hooray!) which you can read by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.
