Golf Open Week
What a fantastic week the Golf Open was, not just for Sandwich but for Ramsgate and the surrounding areas too.
The weather was unseasonably awful but it didn't put golf fans off and our guests like many others braved the wind and rain to watch their favourite golfers play the infuriating game of golf (I am rubbish at it). Thank you to the BBC radio and TV coverage (now you don't hear that very often!) as they kept talking about the White Cliffs of Ramsgate and marvelling at the surrounding areas and even with the stormy weather it still managed to look beautiful.
Four of our guests had an extra treat during their Golf Open week. Andreas and Cecilia (visiting from Germany) went to Manston Golf Centre and when they were there, Colin Montgomerie was holding a Golf Clinic. They loved the informality of it all and couldn't believe how everyone referred to him as just 'Colin'. They had a great time and got a few tips from 'Mr Montgomerie' on how to improve their game.
Mick and Judy (over from The States on a tour of The UK and Ireland) also stayed for the week and on their last day, Charlie had arranged for them to drop their hire car off at Manston Airport. Whilst Mick was sorting out the paperwork, Judy spotted the Golf Open Champion, Darren Clarke who had just walked into the Airport (on his way back to Belfast)! Mick was able to congratulate Darren and shake his hand whilst Judy took the all important photo which, I think may take pride of place when they get back home!
