The Hungry Sailors are coming to Ramsgate!
Me and Charlie are really enjoying this new series with Coast's Dick Strawbridge and his son James. They are sailing on board the 44ft pilot cutter, Amelie Rose starting their journey from Fowey in Cornwall and exploring Britain's South Coast. Their mission is to boldly sail across the South of England, seeking out locally sourced produce then cooking up a three course meal in the Amelie Rose's galley (or using madly engineered contraptions thought up by Strawbridge senior that weirdly seem to work). Their delectable dishes are then served to the crew and generous local producers.
Charlie actually bumped into Dick and James Strawbridge when they were filming in Ramsgate last summer. Charlie was 'locally sourcing' our own dinner at the wonderful Eddie Gilbert's when James was behind the counter creating some culinary masterpiece and Dick walked in to join his son and sample the gorgeous chips. Dick and the crew were filming at Eddie Gilbert's Fish Restaurant and he told Charlie about the new show so hopefully we will be shown a delicious way to batter fish (inside info from Charlie says it may involve peas but he refuses to divulge any further secrets. .)
The Hungry Sailors series started a couple of weeks ago and the Ramsgate episode is scheduled for 8th February at 4pm on ITV1. For previous episodes and recipes created by the Strawbridge boys, go to www.itv.com/food/programmes/hungry-sailors
I took these pictures of Ramsgate harbour over the last few weeks with my new Sony Cyber-shot. The panoramic sweep mode is a great way to squeeze more into one photo!
